In 1605, Guy Fawkes tried to assassinate King James I by plotting to blow up the House of Lords. Fawkes was hanged, drawn, and quartered.
Guy Fawkes was found hiding on the 5th November, and it's traditional to burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes each year on that date in the UK.
Every year, thousands of pets are terrorised by fireworks, and countless animals burned alive sheltering from the cold in bonfires.
Bonfire night is the busiest night in hospitals [and for fire crews] across the country for treating burns. Have a safe bonfire night.
Thanks to Gez Lemon for letting me use his words here and for inspiring me to do something useful with this old site.
Look after your pets this Bonfire Night, and particularly close to my heart, check your bonfire for hedgehogs before lighting it! For more safety advice, check the links below.
It's important to have fun, but please stay safe tonight.
